RMI Webinar: Low-Cost, High-Value Opportunities to Reducing Embodied Carbon in Buildings

September 8, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm PDT

Each year, buildings account for 39% of energy-related global carbon emissions. A quarter of these emissions result from embodied carbon, or the carbon emissions associated with building materials and construction. Embodied carbon is also one of the indirect emissions that fall under Scope 3 Emissions.

While solutions for reducing these emissions exist, they have not been widely studied, leading to significant knowledge gaps among construction industry professionals, policymakers, and building owners. RMI’s latest report, Reducing Embodied Carbon in Buildings, features case studies from Skanska that help provide a framework for reducing this often-overlooked source of carbon in buildings. The report identifies ways to reduce embodied carbon by 46% in the case study buildings at a cost premium of less than 1%.

In this webinar, we will explore this report, and discuss the case studies that show how to achieve significant embodied carbon reductions at little to no cost premium using simple, market ready solutions and best practices.

Speakers:
– Steve Clem, Senior Vice President, Skanska USA Building
– Matt Jungclaus, University of Colorado – Boulder, lead author of the report
– Meghan Lewis, Senior Researcher, Carbon Leadership Forum
