After working with coalition members and with students leading the charge (they secured over 600 signatures on their petition in only ~2 weeks!), the SDUSD Board adopted a resolution to phase out fossil fuels from all District infrastructure, prioritizing investments in Communities of Concern.
The resolution included some major commitments, some of which include:
- Development of a Green Jobs curriculum for students
- New buildings will be all-electric (aka a reach code for the District!!)
- Retrofit existing buildings by replacing all gas appliances and systems at the end of their useful life with all-electric alternatives
- Enroll in SDCP’s Power100 by the end of 2024, procuring 100% clean energy
